Official Bike Support of IRONMAN New Zealand and IRONMAN 70.3 Taupo
Hi ... I'm Ben Marshall, Co-Owner and Senior Bike Technician
Owner of Performance Bicycle Tuning and Senior Bike Technician for over 20 years. I love riding my bike, learning about bikes and sharing this passion with my customers.
My passion for bikes and the sport started as a teenager (you can read more about my journey in a blog post here entitled "From Teenage Triathlete to Business Owner). I love what I do because I am a cyclist, triathlete and Ironman finisher. I do what you do. To me a great ride is getting out there riding with friends, improving my fitness and challenging myself, in the most comfortable, safe and enjoyable way, and that's what I want you to experience too when you come and see us.
Hi ... I'm Owen Ford, Bike Technician and 2nd In Charge
I was born in Buckinghamshire, England and moved to New Zealand, with my family, at age 12. I love all things football and the thrill of riding my bike. I love a good Zwift session because of its competitive element. After leaving University, I started my working career at AvantiPlus Newmarket in sales and management under the guidance of Ben Marshall. Back then it took me one hour to change my first tire, now it takes me less than a minute. I decided I wanted to learn more about bike mechanics so took on my next role as a Bike Technician.
After 18-months, I tried out something new and got paid to ride; the only catch was I had to deliver mail at the same time. After a short riding career, I was back on the tools gaining more experience and building on my technical knowledge. I love that each day is different and is met with some kind of challenge to work through, especially as the bike industry evolves with disc brakes, Di2 and the advancements in bicycle technology.
I love being a part of this team that values ongoing education, embraces new developments and knows the importance of quality service.
Hi ... I'm Tracy Marshall, Co-Owner, Director of Operations
You'll see me from time to time with arm fulls of paper work trying to make sense of what these two have been doing. I do everything that Ben can't do or doesn't do well and try to keep him in line (impossible at times). I love riding my Avanti Hammer mountain bike that Ben bought me about 18 years ago. I have retired from recreational mountain biking and now spend my afternoons racing up to our daughters school as fast as I can on thick tread tyres, so she can ride home and enjoy the full riding experience on her super speedy latest addition Scott MTB (one day I'll get an upgrade!).
I love what Ben and his team have achieved and I'm so glad to be apart of it.
