Every bike and rider is different. At Performance Bicycle Tuning we understand this and can adjust your gears and setup to help you get the most out of your ride. Come talk to us about your individual needs.
Road
With all year round recreational riding and racing, road bikes take a lot of punishment. Wheel Rims and Brake Pads need to be checked and monitored throughout winter with the wet and gritty roads giving extra wear to the pads and the rims. Drive systems need checking and cleaning regularly to keep the bike in top working order so to achieve the best performance. New handle bar tape will make your bike look tidy and maintain a more comfortable and enjoyable riding experience. Throughout the year, brake and gear cables and their housings get heavy to operate and less responsive, and as a result can lead to slower / less responsive shifting and poor braking performance. Signs of this are the brake levers rattling and slap over our rough roads.
MTB (Mountain Bikes)
Mountain bikes have their own unique problems because they are ridden on all kinds of terrain such as; sand, mud and extreme wet conditions. The drive system can experience extra high wear, therefore maintenance needs to look at gear wear and removing the 'chain suck' phenomenon or you may have 'ghost' shifting of your rear gears. On your full suspension mountain bike, disc brakes often need checking to make sure the brake pad wear is similar on both sides and the pistons move and retract smoothly so the rotors move freely. Rotors can reach very high temperatures depending on how aggressive the braking and as a subsequence they can become slightly warped and cause drag. Rotors with a small amount of warping can often be successfully trued (straightened). Suspension forks and rear shocks also need regular preventative maintenance and after longer periods, servicing.
TRI Bikes
Triathlon bikes have there own set of unique problems caused by exposure to salt water, energy bars stuck on top tubes, etc. These bikes need special attention with extra long gear and brake cables. Often these have more bends which equals more friction and hence the need for replacing more often. These symptoms can often be greatly reduced by using a higher grade cable & housing to improve shifting and braking performance. Often bolts need replacing around bar and stem because of rust. We use stainless steel in some cases and install with the appropriate thread preparation. Carbon wheels also need special carbon pads to protect them and improve braking.
At Performance Bicycle Tuning we have special types of services for Tri bikes to help protect parts and improve performance.
